FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is a Naturopathic Doctor?
A naturopathic doctor is a licensed physician that works to bring you back to a state of health and wellness. Essentially, naturopaths are the family doctors of the complementary care world. We can help you to prevent future disease and to get your current health on track. If there is something that we cannot directly help you with in the clinic, we will refer you to other practitioners more specialized in the area that you require.
We are first line healthcare practitioners. This means that ND’s are able to provide you with your yearly physical exam, as well as treatment for any health concerns that you may have along the way.
We focus on preventative medicine so that you can maintain a higher baseline of health and avoid getting sick in the first place.
We look at you as a whole person instead of as a disease or a diagnosis. When I have you in, I want to get to know your case in the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual spheres, because wellness involves all of those aspects. You are more than the sum of your symptoms.

What are “Naturopathic Treatment Modalities”?
Naturopathic medicine is what a naturopath does, and treatment modalities are how we do it. A naturopathic doctor is a jack-of-all-trades with a number of different tools at their disposal. Some of the modalities we use are:
- Asian medicine and Acupuncture
- Botanical medicine
- Lifestyle counselling
- Nutritional counselling
- Personal counselling
The type of medicine that we use depends on your case and your preference. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the clinic for more information.
What happens at an initial consultation?
When a naturopath first meets with a new patient, it is called an initial consultation. It is a longer session (1.5hrs) intended to allow us to get a full understanding of your case, and to get to know you as a person as well. During this session, we will go over each of your health concerns in depth, in order to consider possible root causes. You get to take the time that you need to fully explain your situation and how it is affecting you. Later in the session, we begin working together to create a plan that is realistic and functional for your lifestyle, while also taking into account budget and time constraints. You go home with an instruction sheet on how to start implementing your health plan as soon as you wish.
How often will I be coming in for appointments?
I have not yet found a single approach for every person. As such, when and how often you follow up depends on your case and your lifestyle needs. For simple health maintenance, visits can be as infrequent as yearly or bi-yearly events. For more acute or aggressive conditions, we may have to do treatments (such as acupuncture) two or even three times per week. No matter what, we decide on the treatment plan together. I present your options with pros and cons of each and then you decide what sounds like it would work best for you. In that sense, you decide when and how often you will follow up.
Do you do direct billing for insurance?
Yes! If you would like your insurance company to pay for your appointment up front so you don’t have to submit your receipt later, we can help you out! We offer direct billing for the following insurance providers:
